Mockingjay, the third in The Hunger Games big screen series, has the best chance of becoming the highest grossing film of all 2014 movies released in theaters at the 2014 movie box office. The biggest question is what will be #2 at the 2014 movie box office; Transformers 4, Maleficent, Amazing Spiderman 2 or the final in The Hobbit trilogy?

TBD 2014 Movies
2014 at the movies promises to be an exciting one, with the remake of Annie, this time with an all black cast, a major motion picture directed by Oscar winning actress Angelina Jolie, Unbroken (based on the NY Times Best Selling book of the same name), a Veronica Mars movie, the third in the Hunger Games big screen franchise, Mockingjay: Part 1, (yes, the studio divided the book Mockingjay in two, so that they could capitalize on two movies), a new Terminator movie, featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. And the final in The Hobbit trilogy.
More sequels race into theaters in 2014, including Fast & Furious 7, A Haunted House 2, 300: 2, Paranormal Activity 4, Captain America 2, The Expendables 3, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Dolphin Tale 2, Rio 2, Sin City 2 and Dumb & Dumber 2.
And remakes, including Robocop, About Last Night, Frankenstein and Hercules, (this one featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, in the title role). The Clint Eastwood Oscar winning Best Picture of 1993 gets a remake, in Japanese. As does Endless Love.
The Batman featuring Ben Affleck does not arrive in theaters until 2015 but Ben Affleck costars in Gone Girl, based on the NY Times Best Selling novel of the same name.
Christopher Nolan, responsible for the Batman trilogy reboot featuring Christian Bale, is back in theaters as the director of Interstellar.
And Liam Neeson returns for Taken 3. And a new Sherlock Holmes movie features Ian McKellan as the titular character, aged, and retired.
A new James Bond movie comes to theaters, starring Daniel Craig in 2014. And Tomorrowland, from Walt Disney Pictures, starring George Clooney also settles into theaters.
Many additional movies are on the 2014 Movies release schedule, but are debuting day and date or before their theatrical release on Video On Demand. Those movies are featured on a different page, and are not featured on the main 2014 Movies page, as they are not technically theatrical releases since they are ineligible for Oscar nominations. (Any movie that receives its theatrical release before or concurrent with a VOD release is not eligible for any Oscar nominations).
